Engineering Manager (Automotive)

The Engineering Manager will serve as the people and project leader within MPS Europe engineering team. This role is responsible for leading engineers in workload prioritization, project loading and execution, performance management, and operational approvals. The Engineering Manager partners closely with the Principal Technical Engineer (the senior technical leader) to balance engineering rigor with project delivery and team development. This position requires strong people leadership, organizational skills, and a basic technical foundation to guide Project Engineers to successful timely product launches.
- Lead and manage a team of engineers, setting goals and objectives, conducting performance reviews, and supporting career development.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers on engineering successful project launches.
- Lead and manage multiple engineering projects from concept through launch.
- Ensure projects meet scope, timing and quality targets.
- Coordinate with Global Engineering, Project Management, Product Management, and Principal Technical Engineer to align resources and schedules.
- Monitor project risks and drive mitigation strategies.
- Partner with the Principal Technical Engineer to balance technical depth with project execution needs.
- Translate technical requirements into project plans, resource allocations, and deliverables.
- Escalate critical technical challenges to the Principal Engineer while maintaining program momentum.
- Identify project/engineering constraints/obstacles and escalate to engineering management.
- Lead cross-functional reviews with PMs and management to track project progress and resolve issues.
- Facilitate clear, consistent communication among all project stakeholders—clients, contractors, suppliers, executives, and team members—to maintain alignment on engineering projects and progress.
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects, ensuring alignment with industry standards, project specifications, quality, timelines, and budgetary goals.
- Experience with a PLM system, Outlook, and Teams for effective project tracking and documentation.
- Capture customer requirements from the Product Development team and accurately convey these to both the internal MPS team and supplier partners to ensure seamless project execution.
- Drive local project effectiveness development and enhancement initiatives, focusing on efficiency for both new and existing products and projects.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential obstacles and develop effective mitigation strategies to keep projects on track.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field Master’s degree is a plus.
- 7+ years of engineering experience in the automotive or aftermarket industry.
- 3+ years of engineering team leadership and project development experience.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Excellent communication skills in English (spoken and written).
- Ability to compile technical reports, conduct design reviews, and deliver presentations tailored to diverse audiences.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and experience with components such as mechanical and electronic pumps, electric actuators, sensors, molded rubber, plastic parts, cast metal, and stamped metal products.
